Overview

The Yonsei Graduate School of International Studies offers three PhD degrees (Ph.D. in Korean Studies, Ph.D. in International Studies and Ph.D. in Strategy and Organization) and two Master's degrees (Master of Arts in Korean Studies and Master of International Studies) in five majors which are the Korean Studies Program (KSP), the Area Studies Program (ASP), the Program in International Cooperation (PIC), the International Trade and Finance (ITF) and the International Management Program (IMP).

Korean Studies Program (KSP) has become Korea's premier research center and a world authority for studies related to Korean history and culture. The KSP offers programs leading to a Master of Arts in Korean Studies and Ph.D. in Korean Studies. The highly interdisciplinary curriculum is designed to address the diverse professional and academic objectives of today's students.

With the transnational flow of people, capital, and commodities becoming a widespread pattern rather than an anomaly, there is a rapidly rising demand for talented people equipped with extensive knowledge of other societies, in particular, the societies which have had the most influence on Korean foreign and domestic policy, China, Japan and the United States. Students may choose a concentration on one of these important countries while covering various fields in the social sciences.

The program in International Cooperation (PIC) trains students to meet the challenges of the ever-changing dynamics of the global environment. The PIC offers professional education and training in international relations, focusing in areas such as foreign policy, international security, diplomatic history, development, political economy, international law and international organizations. The curriculum is structured to enable students to acquire qualitative and theoretical depth as well as quantitative and practical understanding.

International Trade and Finance Program (ITF) seeks to train professionals to understand the intricacies of the global economy. The rapid process of global integration through trade and investment has demonstrated its critical influence on economic prosperity. The ITF program offers an innovative, specialized curriculum to train future leaders to fulfill diverse professional and academic needs in the areas of trade and finance. ITF emphasizes the way in which institutions such as national governments, multinational enterprises and international organizations interact with each other in conducting their trade and investment policies.

International Management Program (IMP) emphasizes the ways in which private corporations conduct their international business in various political, economic, cultural and social environments. In particular, students are required to have a basic understanding in related fields such as international trade and finance, international security, development cooperation, area studies or Korean studies. While in the program, students develop an understanding of how economic and business factors interact in shaping the management environment.
