Overview
NPSIA at Carleton University, Ottawa offers the only Master of Arts Degree Program in International Affairs in Canada. The School houses the Simon Reisman Chair in Trade Policy, an excellent Resource Centre, and several Research Centres that specialize in international studies. This premier graduate program has been offering an innovative, interdisciplinary graduate education since 1965.
Alumni are employed in the public services of Canada and other countries as well as in international organizations, high tech, the non-governmental organization community and the private sector.

Master of Arts in International Affairs:(M.A.I.A.):2 years
- 10 semester courses including policy and methods and cluster courses
- Thesis or research essay (none for course work program)
- Foreign language certification (reading comprehension)
- An oral comprehensive examination on the thesis or research essay
Master of Arts in International Affairs and Bachelor of Laws:(M.A./LL.B.):4 years
- First Year: Normal LL.B. first year
- Second Year: Normal M.A. first year (required course work to include a 0.5 credit course in international law)
- Third Year: Normal LL.B. second year, including 0.5 credit course from the School of International Affairs for which credit will be given in both programs and spring/summer registration in M.A. research essay/thesis
- Fourth Year: Normal LL.B. third year, including 0.5 credit course from the School of International Affairs for which credit will be given in both programs and spring/summer registration, conclusion and defence of M.A. research essay/thesis
