Overview

The School of International Relations created in 1943 under the aegis of the Moscow State University formed the foundation for building MGIMO. The School has always been the main source of trained specialists both for the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the civil service of the country. The School is of particular interest to those dreaming of a diplomatic career, wishing to study foreign languages, excited by the stratagems of international relations.

An IR School graduate is a highly educated and broad-minded specialist, professing humanitarian ideology, equipped with fundamental knowledge in the sphere of politics, international relations, world and domestic history, well-versed in international law and economy, fluent in two or more languages, including rare ones and the languages of the CIS member-states.

Degree Requirements

Master of Arts in International Relations:2 years

  • The Master programme at the School of Political Sciences has two branches:

    1) French-Russian and

    2) Russian.

    At present there are more than 90 students studying under both branches of the programme. The principal disciplines composing the Master programme training include Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Law, as well as the study of foreign languages. The training in accordance with the French-Russian curriculum is provided by the professors and teachers of MGIMO jointly with those of the Paris Institute of Political Studies (SciPo).

Fields of Specialization

  • The joint Master programme of MGIMO-SciPo is an interdisciplinary programme combining political, economic, historical and legal studies.

    Joint Degrees

  • The training in accordance with the French-Russian curriculum is provided by the professors and teachers of MGIMO jointly with those of the Paris Institute of Political Studies (SciPo).

    Core Courses

  • Lectures and seminars from core courses including Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Law, as well as the study of foreign languages

  • Internship at a state organisation, nongovernmental organisation or research centre.
