On February 6 and 7, 2020, the Ford School held its annual DC career trip with record student attendance (55 graduate students) and alumni participation (140). A Ford School tradition, this year’s Washington, DC experience provided students with several opportunities to engage alumni and other professionals working in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. On Thursday evening, the Ford School reception was kicked off with a lecture by Professor John Ciorciari on “The Path Forward in Afghanistan,” followed by a robust networking reception at the Council on Foreign Relations.

During the two days, students self-selected to participate in a combination of six sessions designed to encompass the broad policy interests of the attendees. Panels focused on federal leadership, international organizations, social policy careers, advocacy, and research organizations, among others. On Friday, students also joined morning site visits, networking lunches with Ford School alums, and had an opportunity to schedule formal and informational interview sessions with employers of interest.

“The DC trip was an incredible opportunity to build on my experiences and learning in Ann Arbor and foster connections with alumni and future employers,” said Chadd Dowding (MPP ‘21). “It’s empowering to know that we have such a strong and dedicated community for Ford School alumni there to support us.”
