Penn State’s School of International Affairs (SIA) is seeking an experienced professional to oversee, plan, and implement all functions and activities for the School of International Affairs’ alumni and friends relations programs. As Assistant Director for Alumni Relations, this position will be responsible for planning, developing and implementing programs and activities aimed at growing an alumni and friends base, building alumni support, and enhancing alumni and friends involvement and participation. Working under the supervision of the Director of Development and Alumni Relations for both Penn State Law and the School of International Affairs, the person serving in this position will manage, implement and direct all aspects of the external relations program for SIA; this includes working closely with the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations for Penn State Law. The individual serving in this position will be required to identify, establish, and facilitate networking opportunities for students (which will require close interaction with alumni and friends in various career fields); provide oversight of and developing news and features for our written and electronic alumni publications, including social media and alumni web pages; organize and conduct a comprehensive alumni and friends outreach and communications program; develop and/or manage all alumni committees and volunteer programs; work with alumni advisory boards; manage the process for identifying and nominating candidates for alumni awards; and act as a liaison between the School of International Affairs, Penn State Law, and the Penn State Alumni Association. The job will work closely with the Career Services Office, Admissions Office and the Marketing and Communications Office. Ability to function effectively in a complex organizational environment demanding high energy, discretion, patience, enthusiasm, and humor. Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of creating and monitoring event budgets a plus. Flexibility to attend evening and/or weekend events and to travel on an as needed basis. Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and prioritize workload. Must be detail oriented and able to complete projects while adhering to aggressive deadlines. Strong verbal/written communication and proofreading skills. Must possess exemplary interpersonal skills and demonstrate a genuine appreciation in working with diverse audiences. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire, with excellent possibility of re-funding.
