Communications Coordinator, Alliance for Securing Democracy

The Alliance for Securing Democracy at GMF (ASD at GMF) is a nonpartisan, transatlantic initiative that develops comprehensive strategies to defend against, deter, and raise the costs on Russia and other authoritarian actors’ efforts to undermine democracy and democratic institutions. The Alliance works to publicly document and expose authoritarian actors’ ongoing efforts to subvert democracy in the United States and Europe.

Job Summary:

This person serves as communications coordinator for ASD at GMF by drafting and posting social media content, updating the website, coordinating the editorial process with the GMF editorial team, coordinating media interviews, drafting press materials, and tracking communications output. This person’s primary responsibility is to support ASD at GMF’s communications efforts and will work closely with the GMF communications team and an outside consultant to highlight ASD at GMF’s experts and their work. The communications coordinator is a critical part of a dynamic team.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Manage ASD’s website, Twitter account, and Facebook page, and cultivate new opportunities to expand or refine ASD’s digital presence.
Coordinate ASD at GMF’s editorial process in consultation with the GMF editorial team for everything from a blog post to a large report, which can include copyediting and formatting in InDesign.
Draft pitch materials, media advisories, press releases and social media content.
Maintain the ASD press contact lists and track communications output.
Help facilitate interview opportunities with ASD experts and promote ASD analysis and commentary.
Utilize design skills to create content for social media channels and info graphics.
Copyedit and co-author the ASD at GMF weekly newsletter for wide distribution.
Coordinate with GMF communications team on ASD at GMF communications work.
Utilize design skills to create content for social media channels and info graphics and to format reports.
Knowledge and Skills Needed:

Strong interest in current events and autocratic threats to democracy.
Ability to contribute meaningfully as a team member, work collaboratively with others and, use good judgement.
Some experience in social media management and growing online audiences; Familiarity with social media management tools (Sprout Social a plus).
Knowledge of basic principles of web layout and design, HTML, content management systems, Drupal, and other web platforms, such as WordPress. Experience with Drupal preferred.
Self-starter with the ability to manage communications and workflow across time zones.
Strong attention to detail, organized, and task-oriented.
Experience in graphic design for social media and publications. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suites (particularly Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro) preferred.
At least one year of experience in a communications or digital role.
Excellent English-language skills – verbal and written.
Education:

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in journalism, international relations, communications, marketing, English, history, political science, or a related field.
Salary: $47,564 – $59,455
