Maria Gershuni (MA 2019)

Maria Gershuni

MA ’19

European and Eurasian Studies

Maria decided to apply to Johns Hopkins SAIS because she wanted to attend a top international relations school that would provide her with the skills to be a competitive candidate after graduating. After being guided by one her undergraduate professors in choosing the school as her graduate choice, Maria felt that it met her regional interests in Russia and Eurasia.

Before attending the school, Maria interned at the United Nations headquarters in New York, as a Communications Intern for the Department of Public Information. There she had the opportunity to attend high level events and meet with important individuals.

Maria is currently on the executive board of the school’s Russia and Eurasia Club where she serves as the Minister of Social Development. She is also involved in the Hopkins Model United Nations travel teams, in which she is acting as the Head Delegate for the team chosen to compete in the annual rivalry against other top schools such as Columbia and Harvard, hosted by Georgetown University.

After graduating, Maria would like to work for the US federal government either in diplomacy or intelligence. Her particular interests lie in public diplomacy and media operations, where she hopes she can use the insights and skills she learned during her graduate studies in the field of US-Russia relations.
