Career Reception Connects Schools and Employers

Career Reception Connects Schools and Employers

On July 11, 2017, more than 200 students and alumni from sixteen APSIA members gathered at the National Press Club in Washington DC. They connected with representations from 28 employers during APSIA’s inaugural Career Networking Reception.

Attendees had the opportunity to focus their interactions in six areas: consulting, development, education, energy and the environment, health, and security. Alternatively, they could mix and mingle among many different groups.

Bryan Kempton, Chair of the APSIA Career Group and Director of the University of Maryland School of Public Policy Office of Career Services and Alumni Relations, welcomed everyone. He encouraged employers and attendees to explore new opportunities.

Attendees and employers appreciated the chance to connect with the larger APSIA community. “I enjoyed meeting people with similar interests, but from different schools and backgrounds,” said one alumnus. “Hoping there's another soon!”

“Everything [worked well],” a representative of one US government agency noted. “The students prepared very well for the event and asked the right questions. “

APSIA hopes to make this event an annual celebration for the community.
