Intern, Technical Advancement Practice

The intern will support the work of IRI’s Center for Global Impact Division's Technical Advancement Practice. This position will start on January 21, 2025, for no more than sixteen (16) weeks and may not be extended. Interns are required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week, with a preference for full-time availability at 30 hours per week. This is a paid position, at $17.50 per hour. The internship will end on May 9, 2025. This role is based in Washington, DC or virtually in the US and requires current work authorization for the United States. Position Requirements: Current student in or recent graduate of an undergraduate or graduate program in relevant field of study Excellent verbal and written skills in English Familiarity with Microsoft Office Detail-oriented individual with strong organizational skills Passion and commitment to democracy promotion. Ability to manage time effectively, complete tasks with minimal oversight, and communicate clearly and consistently in a virtual work environment. Responsibilities: Assist researching a variety of topics for briefing papers, program proposals, and reports Support key record keeping functions of the division, including taking minutes at staff meetings, external events, and cleaning databases (contact lists, program inventory, etc.) Monitor media outlets for news on topics assigned, which may include corruption/kleptocracy, technology and democracy, countering foreign authoritarian influence, political parties, elections, governance, protest movements, environmental/climate change challenges, youth engagement, conflict prevention and stabilization, etc. Assist in preparing reports and presentations, including drafting and editing reports for external publication Assist staff with program administration and events, including interview coding, event planning, activity reports, and other logistics tasks as needed Develop original analytical pieces for public outlets in coordination with Center staff. Learning Outcomes: Acquire knowledge of the democracy and governance field of international development including aspects related to program management, monitoring and evaluation, program and business development, and external affairs. Experience in key project administration skills employers look for in entry level candidates. IRI Total Compensation The salary for this position is determined based on a wide variety of factors including but not limited to an individual’s professional experience, qualifications, education and other business needs along with internal equity considerations. Employees are not typically hired at the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are made based on the aforementioned considerations.
