The Alumni Relations Office at the School of International Service (SIS) has received a CASE Gold award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) for an innovative new program that allows students to tap into the valuable global alumni network.
The program, SIS Resume Review Week: Eagles Helping and Hiring Eagles, is a student-alumni engagement series that provides SIS graduate students and undergraduate seniors the opportunity to have their resumes reviewed by SIS alumni. Following the review process, students are invited to upload their resumes to the AU Career Center’s CareerWeb for distribution to the SIS global alumni network for consideration for fellowships, internships, and positions.
“Receiving the GOLD CASE Circle of Excellence Most Innovative Program award is due to the collaborative efforts among many colleagues throughout the SIS community,” said Stephanie Block, associate director of SIS alumni relations. “Students really appreciate receiving one-on-one feedback and advice from our alumni. At the same time, our alumni enjoy visiting campus, reminiscing about their college days, and paying it forward to the next generation.”
Alumni who are interested in hiring students for fellowships, internships, and jobs can view the students’ resumes on SIS Resume Books, which is hosted by AU CareerWeb, a career management system that provides students and alumni access to career resources. The resumes are categorized by interest area:
• Environment & Natural Resources and Sustainable Development
• Intelligence & Security
• International Communication
• International Development
• International Education
• International Peace & Conflict Resolution
The series is in its second year. It began in March 2015, when the SIS Alumni Relations and Development Office partnered with the AU Career Center to offer the first SIS Resume Review Week at the Davenport Coffee Lounge for graduate students. More than 100 students participated in this year’s session and had their resumes reviewed by and submitted to alumni in the SIS global alumni network.
“This GOLD-rated program speaks to the caliber of student-alumni engagement programs available to SIS students and alumni,” said Block.
Students and alumni who participated in the SIS Resume Review Week are encouraged to e-mail success stories to email@example.com.
