Join us for a talk and Q&A featuring Steven Simon, Jackson School of International Studies Professor of Practice in Middle East Studies 2023-2024, award-winning author and former U.S. National Security Council member and diplomat, on U.S. policy in the Middle East.

About the speaker
Steven Simon is visiting professor of practice in Middle East Studies at the Jackson School of International Studies for the academic year 2023-2024, following a prolific career in government, private industry, and academia. He served in the National Security Council during the Obama and Clinton administrations, including as senior director on the Middle East and North Africa. These assignments followed a 15-year career in the U.S. Department of State. He is the author of award-winning books on the Middle East, and he frequently appears in the media. His latest book, “Grand Delusion: The Rise and Fall of American Ambition in the Middle East” (Penguin/ Random House, April 2023), was selected as a best book of 2023 by The New Yorker and Financial Times.
