The Mohamed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa Academy for Diplomatic Studies (MBMA) is the Kingdom of Bahrain’s premier institution for diplomatic training, research, and international outreach. Located in Manama, the Academy was established in 2019 by Royal Decree and named in honor of His Highness Shaikh Mohamed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, a pioneer of modern Bahraini diplomacy and the Kingdom’s first Minister of Foreign Affairs. MBMA serves as the successor to the Diplomatic Institute, carrying forward the vital mission of equipping Bahrain’s diplomatic corps with the knowledge and tools required to navigate the dynamic field of international relations.

The Academy’s core mandate focuses on comprehensive capacity building, guiding diplomats through every stage of their careers to ensure they effectively represent Bahrain’s national interests. Beyond the diplomatic corps, the Academy provides specialized training for employees across various government entities, focusing on leadership, crisis management, and the skills necessary for international representation and protocol. These programs are underpinned by a commitment to global standards, featuring proficiency training in nine languages mapped to the CEFR framework and developed in collaboration with international bodies like ACTFL and the CIOL.

Committed to fostering a global knowledge network, the Academy actively develops strategic partnerships with renowned institutes and research centers worldwide. Through a growing list of international memoranda of understanding and local outreach initiatives, particularly those engaging the youth, the Academy strives to be a regionally and internationally recognized leader in diplomatic excellence, enhancing the efficiency
of those who engage with diplomacy at all levels.
