(Five positions) - Postdoctoral Fellow/Researcher/Senior Researcher in 21st-century challenges to democracy

The Faculty of Political Science and International Relations, together with the Institute for Democracy — both at Matej Bel University — have five new fellowship openings. These are open to Postdoctoral Fellows (R2), Researchers (R3), and Senior Researchers (R4). Young researchers interested in a postdoctoral fellowship are especially encouraged to apply.
The fellowships are designed to promote research in the broad area of 21st-century challenges to democracy influenced by shifts in technology, culture, governance, and inequalities.
Although the fellowship may involve some limited teaching and supervision responsibilities, exclusively research-focused fellowships can be arranged upon mutual agreement.

Required Qualifications:
Successful candidates for the post should have a (i) Ph.D. (by September 20th 2023) in Social Sciences, Political Science, Sociology, Economics, or a related field, (ii) strong interest in 21st-century challenges to democracy, as evidenced by a solid track record of academic publications, research projects, or a relevant Ph.D. thesis, (iii) excellent command of English, (iv) be a self-starter who can work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Compensation Details:
• Postdoctoral Fellow (R2, recognized researcher): EUR 3,138 gross monthly
• Researcher (R3, established researcher): EUR 3,567 gross monthly
• Senior Researcher (R4, leading researcher): EUR 3,991 gross monthly

Research Allowances:
Included in the fellowship is also a budget for research-related expenditures (EUR 1,300/monthly) and team personnel costs (up to EUR 2,000/4,500 monthly for R3/R4 researchers, respectively).
The deadline for receipt of applications is September 1st, 2023. Following our internal preselection process, successful candidates will be notified no later than September 4th, 2023. These candidates will then be asked to draft a comprehensive project proposal, due no later than September 20, 2023. This final proposal must be prepared in accordance with the R2-R4 call criteria of the Research and Innovation Authority of the Government of the Slovak Republic (VAIA) and is subject to their funding approval.

Candidates should send their applications to tomas.vida@umb.sk as soon as possible, but no later than September 1st, 2023. Required application materials include:

Cover letter, not exceeding one page.
A research proposal of up to 2,000 words, including specific objectives, methodology, significance, and implementation.
Current curriculum vitae, including publications.
One writing sample in English. This can be an article, a chapter, an excerpt from a Ph.D. thesis, etc., but it should not be more than 20 pages.
Only complete applications will be reviewed.

The awarding of the fellowship is contingent upon VAIA’s positive review of your full proposal. Only candidates with approved proposals by VAIA will receive funding.
