Senior Manager, WMD
The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) is a 501(c)3 grantmaking foundation that receives an annual Congressional appropriation in excess of $310 million and is governed by a private, bipartisan Board of Directors. This unusual arrangement positions NED to play a unique role as America’s leading foundation for freedom, empowering the institution to be nimble, innovative, and risk-taking in support of democratic activists, civil society organizations, independent media, and the NED family core institutes (the International Republican Institute, the National Democratic Institute, the Center for International Private Enterprise, and the Solidarity Center).
The World Movement for Democracy, a global community of action comprised of individuals and organizations working together to catalyze political and public support for democracy around the world, seeks a motivated, energetic, organized, and resourceful, Senior Manager, WMD who is a mission-oriented team player, and who would be excited to join a fast-paced WMD team. This position is based in Washington, D.C.
Position Summary:
The Senior Manager will work to manage overall operations of the World Movement for Democracy Secretariat at NED. Will take lead & responsibility for major projects; provide oversight and technical assistance in the development of regional and thematic networks; play a leadership role in organizing World Movement global assemblies.
Responsibilities:
· Overall Operations of Secretariat
o Work with Director to conceptualize and implement World Movement Secretariat general strategies;
o Work with Director to develop and manage Secretariat activities and related budgets; and,
o Supervise multiple staff members.
Regional and Thematic Networking
o Develop and facilitate regional and global thematic networks and networking.
o Help coordinate networking activities in accord with the World Movement’s mission and general strategies;
o Assist networks in building partnerships with local and international NGOs and inter-governmental organizations; and,
o Facilitating mutual support and collaboration among and between regional and thematic networks.
World Movement Assemblies
o Work with the Director and other Secretariat staff to formulate agenda, identify speakers and participants, and develop activities of each Assembly;
o Oversee staff on logistical and administrative arrangements of each Assembly; and,
o Liaise with and assist workshop organizers in developing workshop agendas.
Special Projects/Other Activities
o Take lead responsibility for the development and implementation of special projects and initiatives.
o Draft/review World Movement publications and other materials.
· Perform other duties as may be assigned.
· The level of responsibility and independence in assigned tasks will increase with experience.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs, Political Science, International Development or a related discipline; Master’s degree preferred.
· 8+ years of work experience in international relations, human rights, civic education, and/or democratic governance.
· Sound knowledge of political and social issues in at least two global regions.
· Experience in building and facilitating global civil society communities.
· Experience in project development, management, and implementation, including financial management.
· Excellent people management skills.
· Experience in building relationships with project partners and funders.
· Overseas work experience preferred.
· Ability to work in a team with a strong sense of mission.
· Ability to conduct and apply sophisticated political analysis to programmatic activities.
· Interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity to interact effectively with political and civic leaders, as well as with representatives of donor organizations.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills.
· Budget and accounting skills; and,
· Ability and willingness to travel internationally, which are sometimes remote and difficult to reach.
· Attention to details and accuracy in all work products.
· Authorized to work in the United States.

Located in Washington, D.C., the salary range for this role is $ 85,250 – 136,125 USD, plus benefits. The final offer for a successful candidate will be determined by a combination of factors, including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, education, and market considerations.
