Announcing the standardized test policy for the 2022-23 application cycle
For the last several years, we adjusted our standardized
test policy as a result of the unique challenges brought on by the COVID-19
pandemic, allowing flexibility for students who faced pandemic-related obstacles
preventing them from taking the GRE or GMAT.
We continue to believe that results from the GRE and GMAT are an effective way for applicants to demonstrate their preparation for the rigors of our
master’s degree programs. After internal discussions and evaluation, we have updated
our standardized test policy for applicants applying during the 2022-23
application cycle.
Our test score requirements vary
by degree program and language ability. Our website
contains the full details of the standardized test policy. A general outline of
the policy is as follows:
GRE/GMAT
- GRE or GMAT scores are required of all
applicants to our two-year master’s degree programs (MPP, MPA/ID, and MPA).
- GRE or GMAT scores are not required for applicants
to the Mid-Career MPA program (MC/MPA). Applicants may choose to submit GRE or
GMAT scores for consideration in the application process, but this is optional.
English Proficiency
- All applicants who do not speak English as their
native language and who did not earn an undergraduate degree conducted in English
must submit results of an English proficiency exam. If you earned an
undergraduate degree conducted entirely in English, you do not need to submit
English proficiency testing.
- We accept the Test of English as Foreign
Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or
Cambridge English test.
- The following minimum test scores should be met
in a single test sitting:
- 100 on the internet-based TOEFL (iBT) either
in-person or on the Home Edition. The most competitive applicants will also
have a minimum of 25 on each sub-section.
- 7 overall band score on the IELTS. The most
competitive applicants will also have a minimum of 7 on each section.
- 185 on Level C1 or Level C2 proficiency on the
Cambridge English. The most competitive applicants will also have a minimum of
185 on each section.
