Fletcher’s annual gender conference comes into focus

Gender conference logoThe Gender and International Affairs Conference has become a major Fletcher event since its inaugural 2015 edition. This student-organized conclave has featured past keynote speakers including Samantha Power and Jamille Bigio, and this year’s edition (the 8th!) promises to be just as exciting. The coordinating committee recently announced this year’s theme:

The theme for this year’s conference is “Challenging for Change: Amplifying Voices into Action.”

As we’re sure most people reading this will agree, making a change, no matter the context, is never easy. Structures that exist around us may not be (usually are not)  just, or equitable, but they do serve the interests of those who maintain them. As a result, any change that is attempted must collide with the power asymmetries that maintain the status quo. This year as part of the conference, we want to explore various wonderful acts of resistance across the world, and across contexts, celebrate those who are part of these resistances, and most importantly, emphasize the importance of joy, and care, both as tools at the disposal of these crusaders, but also as acts of resistance themselves.

The conference will take place at Fletcher on November 18-19 of this year. More on this exciting event as it develops!
