Where Do HKS Grads Go?
Each spring, the Office of Career Advancement publishes an
employment report highlighting the employment outcomes of the previous year’s
graduating class. It’s always exciting to see the amazing things HKS graduates
go on to do once they leave campus—and the Class of 2021 was certainly no
exception.
The Class of 2021 navigated a professional landscape—still
uncertain but starting to show signs of recovery and opportunity—as the
COVID-19 pandemic continued in its second year. Primed with new skills and
broadened perspectives, these graduates searched across the globe for their
next professional landing spots. And they succeeded, securing positions at the
highest rate in recent years.
In the Class
of 2021 Employment Snapshot report, you’ll see that HKS graduates found
employment in a range of industries, sectors, policy areas, and geographies.
Here are some highlights from the report.
- 91 percent of graduates were employed and 7
percent were running for office, launching new ventures, or continuing their
education, education, with a total of 98 percent settled by the end of October 2021.
- 398 graduates went on to work in 38 counties and
territories, 27 U.S. states and Washington, D.C.
- Top destinations for graduates included the U.S.
federal government, which continues to be the top employer of our graduates, as
well as international government, non-profit organizations, and consulting
firms.
- 16 graduates launched new ventures in areas
ranging from K-12 education to economic development to national security.
- 85 percent of employers hired only one graduate, a
measure of our graduates’ diverse career trajectories.
