Anshu chose Johns Hopkins SAIS for its unique mix of the brand name of a large school and the class size of small schools. In particular, she believes the International Development concentration provides great support to its concentrators. Students are assigned a faculty advisor and an academic advisor can answer questions about classes, internship preparation, and career planning. Furthermore, the school’s strategic location in Washington, DC and its impeccable reputation within the development sector were important factors in her decision to apply.

Before her graduate studies, Anshu was working with a non-profit in India. There, she was part of their financial inclusion team and managed policy advocacy efforts at the national and state level.

In addition to her academic work, Anshu is a Research Assistant in the International Development department and a student coordinator for the International Development Practicum. The practicum is a unique opportunity for students to work with public, private and non-governmental organizations for two-semesters for academic credit.

This summer Anshu is interning with Chemonics International in Washington, DC. After graduation in 2018, she would like to return to India to work in policy advocacy and contribute to the advancement of the development sector in the country.
