Professor James B. Reardon-Anderson received the Patrick Healy Award on April 16th at the 2016 John Carroll Awards Banquet in Rome, Italy. The Patrick Healy Award is the highest honor bestowed by the alumni association upon distinguished individuals who are not alumni.

Reardon-Anderson joined the Georgetown University faculty in 1985. He has held many leadership positions in the SFS, including Director of the Asian Studies program (1992-1995), Director of the MSFS program (2002-2005), and Interim Dean of the SFS (2014-2015). He played a pivotal role in the launch of the SFS campus in Qatar in 2005 and served as the founding dean at SFS-Qatar from 2005-2009.

Currently, Professor Reardon-Anderson is the Sun Yat-sen Professor of Chinese Studies and senior advisor to the dean for SFS and Georgetown University in Qatar. He teaches “Map of the Modern World”, a required undergraduate class considered a rite of passage by many SFS alumni, as well as “Globalization of Inter-Societal History” in the MSFS program. Beginning in July 2016, Jim will serve as the dean for SFS and GU in Qatar until July 2018.

SFS is appreciative that the Georgetown University Alumni Association honored Professor Reardon-Anderson’s contributions to Georgetown and to SFS with the Patrick Healy Award.

The Patrick Healy Award was established in 1969 and named for Reverend Patrick Healy, S.J., the first black president of a major American university and Georgetown’s “second founder.” The Patrick Healy Award symbolizes the deep admiration that the university holds for these unique individuals and special friends of Georgetown.
