ESG Quantitative Research Analyst

Basic Purpose:

Primary Responsibilities:

Perform portfolio analytics on current and new products in development
Use information from data vendors and our proprietary research to analyze, score, rate and rank companies on their ESG performance in support of new product development
Perform backtesting and other quantitative analysis to identify ESG performance indicators that are most impactful on performance of investments across asset classes and/or company financials
Participate in the index reconstitution and rebalance processes for equity and fixed income index strategies
Ensure data relevance and quality through appropriate selection of data sources, sound collection, data quality tests and strong data management. Develop appropriate strategies for dealing with data quality issues. Effectively use software and systems in support of work
Support the development of impact metrics for current and new products
Seek and evaluate sources of information regarding the environmental, social and governance policies and performance of corporations and other issuers of securities
Develop expertise in critical issue areas, such as energy, natural resource efficiency, environmental sustainability, economic development, supply chain management, health care, etc.
Perform regular reviews of academic literature on ESG investing, and relevant ESG topics and communicate to the team findings and/or empirical developments
Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree would be a plus) in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business or related fields in the Sustainability space
At least 2 years of experience in the investment management industry
Experience working with statistical and econometric packages
Experience utilizing a variety of statistical, mathematical, and/or analytical tools in order to design, develop, and evaluate data analytics
Passion for aligning financial returns with societal impact
Excellent verbal and writing skills in English
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
Strong work ethic and positive attitude
Self-motivated, work individually or as part of a team
Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
Advanced MS Office (Word/PowerPoint/Excel) skills
Experience with Data Science languages (Python, R, Scala, Java HTML 5 SQL)
Ability to analyze complex large databases and effectively use Data Visualizations tools like Tableau, BI
Good knowledge of financial tools (Factset strongly preferred, BARRA)
Familiarity with ESG data vendors preferred
Basic understanding of financial data science
