Taiwan Arts Program Administrator

The Taiwan Studies Program in the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies has an outstanding opportunity for a Taiwan Arts Program Administrator. The primary responsibility of the role is to design and direct the Taiwan Arts Program to introduce Taiwan arts and culture to audiences in the western United States. This includes high culture, popular culture, folk culture, cultural history, indigenous culture and contemporary cultural movements in Taiwan. This role may supervise staff. A demonstrated ability to teach one Taiwan-centric academic course per year to large audiences is required.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is comfortable directing complex program outreach activities, planning events, collaborating with program partners and vendors, and possesses demonstrated public speaking and presentation skills. The role may require frequent local and regional travel, as well as occasional international travel to Taiwan and East Asia (pending pandemic travel updates). This position is currently grant funded through academic year 2025-26 with potential for future extension.

Program Direction and Event Planning

  • Designing and managing the Taiwan Arts Program to promote arts and culture to Pacific NW and other US audiences.
  • Planning and directing up to ten high-profile public events annually.
  • Booking artists and performance groups for performances and lectures.
  • Introducing individual artists, performers, and craftsmen to American arts organizations.
  • Partnering with community members and directing efforts around bringing Taiwan art, photography, film and museum exhibitions to Pacific NW venues.
  • Working closely with regional and national Taiwanese, Taiwanese-American and Taiwan-related communities.
  • Making Taiwan arts and cultural products available by organizing translations, subtitling, and interpretive documentaries and exhibitions.
  • Managing donor relations.

    Program Administration and Budget Management

  • Hiring and partnering with interpreters, translators, videographers and other professional vendors to produce publications including video recordings of performances and lectures, website and promotional content, and social media content (e.g. YouTube, Facebook).
  • Processing reimbursements and partner with finance to ensure timely payments for professional services.
  • Planning, booking and directing travel itineraries for program members, visiting speakers, presenters and other partners.
  • Partnering with Taiwan Studies Chair and East Asia Center Managing Director to manage program budget(s), oversee costs, and ensure spending compliance with grant terms.
  • Oversee record management and internal reporting, including by developing and maintaining contact lists for program partners, vendors and documenting program best practices.
  • Performing other duties as assigned


  • Designing and teaching one Taiwan-centric academic course per year on an arts or humanities topic.

    Grant Writing and Reporting

  • Supporting the Taiwan Studies Program Chair, East Asia Center Managing Director and Jackson School Grants Manager in meeting grant reporting deadlines.
  • Supporting the Taiwan Studies Program Chair in the development of new grant proposals.


  • 2-3 years of work experience
  • MA in an arts or humanities field.


  • Fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite and Social Media.
  • Experience in project or event management.
  • Experience with public speaking and ability to teach a college-level class on Taiwan studies.


  • PhD in arts or humanities field.
  • Entrepreneurial, self-directed and results-oriented individual.
  • Experience in grant writing, reporting, fund raising and donor relations.
  • Experience and willingness to develop additional skills in project and event management.
  • Experience in videography or documentary film production.
  • Experience in website development.
  • Speaker of Hokkien (Taiwanese), Hakka, or an Indigenous Taiwanese language.


  • Ability and willingness to secure a passport for occasional international travel to Taiwan and elsewhere in East Asia (as travel restrictions allow). Driver’s license and own transportation preferred for local and regional events.
  • Flexible work schedule to attend evening and weekend events.
  • Ability to work remotely and/or on-campus for extended periods of time sitting in front of a computer and to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
