Manager of Global Education

Hours per week: 40 hours
Salary: $40,000-$45,000

Global Classrooms DC (GCDC) is UNA-NCA’s flagship education program. GCDC aims to educate and introduce youth (Grades 5th-12th) in the Washington, DC area to the work of the United Nations while building 21st century educational skills. This position is ideal for those interested in international relations, non-profit management, program development, and education.

The primary focus of the Manager of Global Education is to oversee the development and implementation of the Global Classrooms® DC (GCDC) program. The Manager provides programmatic leadership and management oversight for existing and new program components designed to engage young people (Grades 5-12) and educators in the field of global education and international affairs, and to strengthen critical thinking skills such as conflict resolution, reading, research, and writing skills, and socio-emotional skills, such as perspective-taking, teamwork, and empathy.


Management & Evaluation
Work directly with the President, Board of Directors, Programs Vice Chair and other officers to support and ensure implementation of the GCDC program and other UNA-NCA education initiatives;
Initiate and manage other actions and procedures as identified by the President in order to achieve organizational and programmatic successes;
Hire, train, and supervise the GCDC Program Assistants and Youth Team Interns from area colleges, universities, and high schools;
Recruit and communicate with volunteers for Model UN conferences, events, and Model UN Mentor program;
Communicate and organize speaking events for schools and groups with Board of Directors’ Members, Advisory Council, U.S. Department of State, UNIC and other UN agencies, and volunteers;
Manage program documentation, such as check requests, invoices, timesheets and other tracking logs;
Manage and develop program budgets, approve expenditures and requests for programmatic expenses in consultation with the President;
Manage GCDC Monitoring & Evaluation to evaluate impact of global education initiatives and retention of schools;
Participate in other UNA-NCA organizational activities;
Represent GCDC/UNA-NCA at select outreach events, including workshops, presentations, etc.

Program Partners & Development
Support the UNA-NCA Growth Team regarding fundraising and grant writing activities;
Design fundraising strategies for the Fall Back to School campaign and the Spring Model UN Conference, including donor communications (newsletter), outreach (solicitation), and fundraising goals;
Participate in developing and maintaining relationships with funders and program partners;
Help design or collaborate with Communications or Development teams for special fundraising events and online campaigns;
Engage and coordinate with program partners including the U.S. Department of State, Pan American Health Organization for annual Model UN Conferences;
Work with the President to develop new program partners in areas of curriculum, fundraising, and events;
Work with relevant UNA-NCA board members to strengthen program partnerships;
Supervise and support program assistants/managers responsible for conference sponsor relationships.

Global Education Programming
Supervise the creation of all program communications, conference program, annual reports, newsletters, brochures, and website;
Facilitate professional development workshops and webinars for teachers;
Facilitate virtual mini-simulations based on curriculum topics for schools enrolled in the GCDC Community;
Design and develop curriculum related to year-round program and Model UN conferences;
Open, upload, and maintain electronic database and registration for curriculum/year-round program;
Organize one Fall Model UN Conference and one Spring Model UN Conference;
Organize additional conferences or events according to grant guidelines and partner opportunities;
Develop partnerships with UN agencies and other relevant organizations to support programming and/or curriculum;
Develop partnerships to strengthen programming for underserved communities, including students at Title I and Title III schools;
Design and implement appropriate facilitation training for college trainers and volunteers.

Model UN Conferences
Organize one Model UN /Training Conference involving schools in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area and one Spring Model UN Conference hosted at the State Department and PAHO annually;
Update website page and develop curriculum materials related the topics and organization of the Model UN Conference;
Oversee and manage registrations, including conference payments and invoices;
Recruit, communicate, and train volunteers and chairs;
Support the President in developing and maintaining relationships with conference funders and program partners;
Supervise the development of conference sponsorship packages, program, and other promotional materials;
Determine conference theme/topic with input from relevant partners;
Determine and invite speakers for opening/closing ceremonies;
Train and communicate UNA-NCA staff on day-of procedures;
Ensure supporting conference items including catering, printing of materials, signage, etc. are completed;
Organize additional conferences according to grant guidelines and opportunities.
