Technology and Programs Associate

The Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT) is seeking a full-time Technology and Programs Associate who can help us in our mission to prevent terrorists and violent extremists from exploiting digital platforms.

GIFCT envisions a world in which the technology sector marshals its collective creativity and capacity to render terrorists and violent extremists ineffective online. In every aspect of our work, GIFCT aims to be transparent, inclusive, and respectful of the fundamental and universal human rights that terrorists and violent extremists seek to undermine.

About the Role

As someone familiar with analysis, data science, and open source intelligence, you will be excited to dive into research and analysis projects to answer questions that drive priority GIFCT projects, including our Incident-Response Framework, Definitional Framework, and Transparency Reporting and Impact Assessment. As a key player on a small, dynamic team, you will be integral to the efficient (and enjoyable!) execution of cross-organizational projects by managing up, communicating clearly, and practicing a learning mentality with everything you do.

You will learn from and grow with our Director of Technology, Tom Thorley, who will serve as a coach, mentor, and enabler so you can leverage your strengths to most effectively support the GIFCT mission, team, and community through:

Program Support: Help the Director of Technology and Director of Programs deliver on three of GIFCT’s critical 2022 programs: the DefinitionalFramework (40%), the Incident Response Framework (25%), and the Transparency Reporting and Impact Assessment (35%).
Analysis, Research, and Project Coordination: Design and conduct independent research projects on topics such as: assessing the impact of GIFCT’s work, researching the online aspects of offline terrorist events, and quantifying biases in the application of technologies. Engage and coordinate appropriate stakeholders throughout research and project lifecycles.
Incident Response: Provide situational awareness and open source intelligence (OSINT) capabilities to ensure that GIFCT and members can respond effectively to offline terrorism or mass violence events with an online aspect.
Internal Capacity Building: Identify and institutionalize best practices and opportunities for technological improvements within GIFCT.
Other Duties as Assigned: As part of a small team, maintain a can do and will do attitude. Understand, appreciate, and lean into what it means to be a key player in an agile organization.
What you need

Commitment to GIFCT’s values of inclusion, transparency, and a real-world reduction in violent activity carried out by extremists
Excitement and ability to learn new technologies quickly
Experience in professional data analysis and OSINT
Familiarity with Python
Experience applying statistics in a professional setting
Self-starter mentality; a history of proactively and successfully designing and delivering impactful projects with little or no oversight
A can do and will do attitude; understanding, appreciating, and leaning into what it means to be a key player on a small team
Strong written and verbal communication skills with a variety of stakeholders
Organizational skills to track simultaneous projects, tasks, and collaborations
Exposure to issues relevant to counter terrorism and radicalization
Position Details and Benefits:

Permanent, full-time, remote position; expected travel up to 20% (e.g., visits to GIFCT offices in D.C. and London, visits to member companies, and participation in international events)
Salary: $62,000 to $75,000 USD, to be commensurate with experience and location
