Assistant Director of Academic Affairs and Administration

The Master of Science in Foreign Service (MSFS) Assistant Director of Academic Affairs and Administration supports 250+ US and international students and 100+ full-time and adjunct faculty members in three ways:  academic and student affairs, academic and faculty affairs, and administration.  

In academic and student affairs, the Assistant Director serves as a member of the MSFS curriculum committee and provides program administration as needed in coordination with the Director of Academic and Faculty Affairs. Activities also include managing course scheduling, tracking student progress to degree, and providing internship and career-related services in coordination with the SFS Career Center.

In academic and faculty affairs, the Assistant Director serves as the point of contact for and facilitate the hiring, onboarding, and training of adjuncts, other new faculty, and Practitioners in Residence. Duties also include syllabi collection/review and tracking course evaluations.  

In administration, the Assistant Director oversees MSFS office operations and coordinates unit-level economic activities, including overseeing student employees and fellows, coordinating unit-level financial activities in conjunction with the SFS Finance team, and tracking of gifts and gift stewardship. They also guide and support the Director of Academic and Faculty Affairs.

Work Interactions

The MSFS Assistant Director of Academic Affairs and Administration reports to the MSFS Director and works closely with the MSFS administrative team, faculty, and students.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • 3 years of related, progressively responsible experience in the private, public or non-profit sectors
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to deal with a variety of constituents from a wide range of diverse populations
  • Superb writing, editing and proofreading skills
  • High energy and attention to detail;
  • Ability to organize effectively and manage multiple priorities

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in student/academic affairs, and/or career coaching
  • Experience with office and budget management
