Najam’s Keynote to Young Diplomats Focuses on Building a Better International Order
Professor Adil Najam, WWF’s Global President and Dean Emeritus and Professor of International Relations at the Pardee School, was invited to deliver the keynote address at the XIXth Summer School for Young Diplomats, held in Kolašin, Montenegro, making it his third year attending. Organized by Montenegro’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in partnership with UNDP and the country’s Diplomatic Academy, the annual program brought together young diplomats and foreign service professionals from nearly 50 countries for a week of training, dialogue, and collaboration on the future of diplomacy. Mondesire Explores the Future of Black Internationalism in New Essay
In an essay published in part of the 25th anniversary volume of SOULS, an open access, peer-reviewed journal of Black Studies, Zachary Mondesire, Assistant Professor of International Relations at the Pardee School, examines how Black internationalist movements have understood global struggles for justice and why some contemporary crises receive greater attention than others. Titled “On the Black International Gaze,” the essay asks a provocative question: why has Black internationalist solidarity mobilized so powerfully around Palestine while often engaging more cautiously with conflicts in places such as Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo?...
Mako Co-Authors Chapter on Iraq’s Ba’th Party Archives
Shamiran Mako, Associate Professor of International Relations at the Pardee School, has co-authored the opening chapter of a new edited volume from Stanford University Press, The Ba’th Party Archives and the Study of Iraqi Politics and History, edited by Samuel Helfont and Lisa Blaydes. Co-authored with Marsin Alshamary and titled “Arrested History: Hierarchized Knowledge Production and Iraq’s Ba’th Party Archives,” the chapter opens the volume by confronting one of its most pressing tensions directly....
Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future Announces 2026 Graduate Summer Fellows
The Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future welcomed eight Boston University graduate students as the 2026 cohort of its Graduate Summer Fellows Program. Running from May 26 through July 31, the 10-week fellowship provides master’s and doctoral students with the opportunity to conduct independent, future-oriented, policy-relevant research while participating in interdisciplinary workshops and discussions. At the conclusion of the program, each Fellow will produce a substantive research paper to be considered for publication by the Pardee Center....
