Researching Educational Outcomes in India
Over winter break, Jackson MA and SOM joint-degree student Beth Goldberg was part of a team of students that traveled to India to conduct research with an Indian education nonprofit. Their research was part of a project in the Global Social Enterprise (GSE) course, a practical course that allows students to apply classroom knowledge to hands-on problem solving in the areas of international development and social enterprise.
Goldberg’s team partnered with an Indian non-profit, i-Saksham, which uses low-cost technology to improve educational outcomes for elementary school students in remote areas where there is a severe lack of access to quality education. The GSE team analyzed the use of technology by i-Saksham’s tutors, and researched tools to further improve student learning outcomes.
The course concluded with a presentation to the Yale community of each project and the tools and research developed by each team. The presentations are given as a part of the Social Impact Lab at the School of Management, a weekly speaker series that seeks to investigate what it takes to make positive social and environmental change.
