Associate Director Admissions, Johns Hopkins SAIS
The Admissions Department is seeking an Associate Director of Admissions who will be responsible for a) supervising the office staff with respect to application screening processes, training of new permanent and seasonal staff, admissions counseling, customer service and records management, b) developing and implementing operations to improve new student enrollment through institutional data systems, c) evaluating applicant credentials and determining admissibility of applicants, d) strategizing, scheduling, planning, and executing admissions recruiting events, e) evaluation of the effectiveness of recruitment efforts, admissions policies and procedures f) developing and supervising student support staff, g) managing the admissions process for Johns Hopkins SAIS dual degree, BA/MA and Direct Admissions programs.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Admissions Functions
- Directs the operational aspects of all SAIS admissions processes, giving direction and input to other staff members, making sure that goals and deadlines are met.
- Serves as a member of the Financial Aid Committee, providing recommendations on financial aid award packages for admitted students.
- Responsible for data management planning utilizing SIS (Ellucian) and CRM (Slate Technolutions) platforms.
- Assists with developing and implementing strategies to attract a diverse class of high-ability candidates from population groups that are historically underrepresented communities among all programs.
- Reviews SAIS completion, evaluation graduate applications to ensure and notification of candidates is aligned with the general admissions process.
- Develops & presents training and orientation materials for faculty, staff and outside reviewers who comprise the Admissions Committee.
- Provides training and mentoring for other staff on the use of the Slate CRM to improve effectiveness in outreach and tracking progress to goals.
- Conducts organizational presentations (i.e. private, public, multilateral sectors) to promote SAIS and attract domestic and international prospective students.
- Supervises official notification process of Admissions decisions, working with the Director of Admissions to ensure timely email communication to prospective and admitted students, pre and post admissions decisions.
- Assumes other projects and assignments as necessary for the successful functioning of the Admissions Office.
Recruitment Functions
- Oversees yield recruitment activities which include domestic & global alumni receptions, admitted student Open Houses, Preview Days and related virtual events.
- Serve as primary recruiter for SAIS dual degree, BA/MA and Direct Admissions programs, coordinating relationships and outreach efforts with respective campus departments and external partner institutions.
- Manages and participates in regular interactions with prospective students and applicants, both in-person and virtual, including admissions office visits, phone calls, appointments, and targeted outreach campaigns.
- Delivers presentations and represents SAIS at professional organizations throughout US and abroad for prospective applicants (e.g. APSIA)
- Assists in the development, production and enhancement of all SAIS marketing materials and activities including the admissions marketing brochures, flyers and application materials.
- Travels locally, nationally and internationally for networking and other program related activities (seminars, meet with alumni, companies/organizations, etc.)
- Provide leadership in the development of a calendar-based strategy for recruitment and outreach.
Miscellaneous
- Participates in general professional development activities for the Admissions Office.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Five years progressively responsible related experience.
- Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
