Fall Semester Intern
Role Description
WACA interns support the day-to-day work of various departments at our headquarters office, including Global Education, Marketing and Communications, Member Services, and National Partnerships. Interns will have a primary department and supervisor, but our goal is to ensure they collaborate with all departments during their time with us. That way, interns gain the most comprehensive professional development and insight into the administration of a leading nonprofit in the global affairs and citizen diplomacy space. Interns will perform substantive tasks in support of WACA programming and administration as outlined below.
Duties and Responsibilities (depending on Department assigned)
● Assistance in planning and facilitation of annual events such as Academic WorldQuest, National
Conference, Student Scholars, Council Leadership Meetings and other flagship programming
● Researching content for Academic WorldQuest and other materials
● Development assistance for branding strategies, updating website and drafting newsletter content
● Updating and maintenance of speaker database, Council contacts, and Council directory
● Researching potential donors and national partners
● Collaborating on processing of event registrations, dues payments, and donations
● Working in accordance with and supporting WACA’s mission, goals, values, & strategic direction
● Performing other duties, including assistance with special projects, as assigned
Qualifications
Required:
● Verified enrollment in an accredited degree program in International Relations, Political Science,
History, Foreign Languages, Business, Hospitality, Communications, or related major.
● Organizational skills, ability to prioritize tasks, multi-task and work well with others
● Ability to communicate well with internal and external stakeholders
● Ability to learn quickly; high problem-solving proficiency
● Ability to take accountability for multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize workload, and remain
organized in a deadline sensitive environment
● Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
● Strong communication skills in English
● Professionalism, discretion, and integrity, particularly with personal or confidential information
Preferred:
● Junior, senior, or graduate student status
● Intercultural competency as evidenced by prior work experience, study, or travel abroad
● Prior volunteer experience in the nonprofit field
● Research experience (qualitative or quantitative)
● Proficiency in languages other than English
Compensation
Compensation will be in the form of a $2000 stipend payable upon satisfactory completion of the internship. No other benefits are implied or stated.
