Senior Director of Budget & Admin
As a member of the school’s senior management team, the Senior Director of Budget and Administration will collaborate closely with the Dean and the leadership team to set financial and budgetary priorities in alignment with enterprise resource issues (e.g., human resources, space, and other infrastructure investments such as IT). They will also oversee the Dean’s office staffing as well as serving as the principal staff officer for the school’s community. This position requires a collaborative, strategic, service-oriented individual with strong organizational skills who can multitask in a dynamic environment with deadlines. Reporting to the Dean, the Senior Director of Budget and Administration is responsible for development, oversight, interpretation, and application of university policies in the administration of the Maxwell Schools budget and human resources.
Job Specific Qualifications
- Strong financial background in budgeting and financial planning required.
- Strong data analysis, visualization and presentation skills required.
- Strong Communication and HR management skills preferred.
- Higher Education Experience preferred.
- Financial planning and budgeting experience in an academic setting, especially one that utilized Responsibility Center Management and PeopleSoft preferred.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate, develop, and implement school-wide internal controls. Investigate opportunities for continuous improvements and streamlining of business processes. Responsible for improving school human resource policies, processes, and practices and recommending changes to leadership.
- Evaluate, develop, and implement workforce development initiatives to ensure continuous improvement in staff skills consistent with performance expectations.
- Perform complex financial and resource research studies for both internal department and external campus constituents generating, modifying, and conceiving new financial and other resource reports; using strategic planning modeling; analyzing and forecasting staff/faculty salary budgets, contracts, grants, gifts, endowments, tuition, and other revenues; and making recommendations for maximizing financial or other resource outcomes.
- Function as the principal administrative liaison to central HR leadership.
- Lead or participate in search committees for key administrative personnel.
- Assist in the development of School policies and procedures consistent with best practices to maximize expenditure management, revenue, and objectives.
- Oversees complex and confidential issues related to employment, compensation, appointment letters, and employee relations.
- Supervises all financial and human resources personnel in the Dean’s Office who function as resources to Maxwell departments in interpreting and applying all University HR policies and procedures.
- Function as a liaison between the Dean’s Office and its school departments regarding school-wide financial and human resource policies and procedures.
- Coordinate and oversee the annual salary and performance review process for Maxwell faculty and staff.
- Represent the School with University offices on financial and administrative issues and policies. Work closely and maintain a good working relationship with Academic Affairs, Sponsored Accounting and Sponsored Programs, Budget Office, Human Resources, Comptroller’s Office, Payroll, Development, and other SU schools and colleges. Negotiate problem resolution with outside administrative units.
- Provide financial summaries and projections to the Dean, Associate Deans, Department heads, and Budget Office
- In consultation with the Assistant Dean for Advancement and External Affairs, oversee and analyze endowment payout funds to ensure funds are utilized in accordance with donor restrictions.
