Nunn Schools Students Visited NTI in Washington, DC
Published - Annually, the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs invites and sponsors students to attend a 2-3 day trip to Washington D.C. to attend career related events. These events include: a meeting at the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI); a series of lectures, discussions, and a wargaming simulation at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS); and an alumni reception event with alumni working/living in the area.
The School invited fifteen students from majors that include B.S. and M.S. in International Affairs, M.S. in International Affairs, Science, and Technology, M.S. in International Security, B.S. in Economics and International Affairs, and B.S. in International Affairs and Modern Languages. Participating students were awarded stipends to cover lodging, transportation, and food costs.
On March 21, students visited NTI, a nonprofit, nonpartisan global security organization focused on reducing nuclear and biological threats. Guest speakers discussed NTI’s mission, ongoing projects, and followed up with Q&A. The students then joined alumni for a reception and networking event where alumni with careers at the state department staff, subcontractors for federal agencies, non-governmental organizations, and several others joined to network with students and provide career advice.
The program resumed on March 22 at CSIS where students were briefed on CSIS/think tanks, careers in think tanks, and programs related to security, development, and the world’s largest challenges. This was followed by a wargaming simulation in which the students explored an escalatory situation in the Taiwan Strait.
