The Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) was established in 2004 as a postgraduate research and teaching institute. The Institute is a center of academic excellence specialized in the field of international studies, combining and complementing outstanding research with high-quality postgraduate education. All IBEI master’s degrees have been accredited by the Spanish Ministry of Education.
IBEI students receive a thorough core education covering the analytical skills and in-depth knowledge needed to be able to assess crucial matters in the international sphere today. IBEI’s courses have been designed to build the students’ knowledge, broaden their horizons and develop the transferable skills they will be able to use in any international career. There is a wide array of over 50 electives on different thematic and geographical areas to chose from allowing students to tailor their education according to their individual interests. The programs strive to maintain a personalized approach to ensure close contact among all members of the IBEI community. All master’s programmes are taught in English, and the Master’s in International Relations is also offered as a bilingual (Spanish-English) track.
Students come from more than 40 countries around the world and many of them have studied or worked abroad before coming to Barcelona. There is a very international atmosphere, in which the students’ different viewpoints favor cross-cultural debates and reflections both during and outside classes.
In January 2019, IBEI launched a new Research Master’s in International Studies which combines the study of complex problems in international politics and related areas, with a strong focus on research methods in Social Sciences.
